The beat will draw in several, but the mania will only stick with hardcore music/rhythm players

The weird part about Beatmania's US release is that this isn't really a whole new series, but one that's been bouncing around in Japanese arcades for around eight years. But I guess Konami felt compelled to give the game a try on these shores, and those who are hardcore into games such as this will be tapping buttons well into the night. The only problem, though, is that this isn't the best edition to find a release, as the displays are above average at best, and the music selection is wayyy lacking. That kinda limits its audience a bit, which hurts the overall appeal. This Beatmania may be catchy to some, but won't find long-term appeal like Guitar Hero did.
