Managers have such a tremendous impact on employee job satisfaction and productivity that it’s often said employees join an organization but leave a supervisor. But despite the acknowledged importance of this responsibility, many supervisors are untrained or ill-equipped to meet the challenges of their role. In a recent survey we conducted among our clients and colleagues, we asked individuals to respond to the following statement, “My current supervisor provides guidance, support, and timely feedback to help me work productively.” While 46% of them said they agreed or strongly agreed, an almost equal number, 45%, said they disagreed.
