Until a few years ago, Shaun Stenshol was more likely to end up in jail for his environmental activism than in the business press. Back in 1992, Stenshol rode his bike for 50 miles through the night so that, come morning, he was positioned right near the place in Nevada where a nuclear bomb test was scheduled to take place. "I delayed testing by 45 minutes," he says proudly.

Stenshol was arrested and sentenced to community service. Undeterred, he later led two groups on clandestine hikes to the test site to prevent other detonations. And what do you know? Eventually, the government stopped testing atomic bombs in Nevada.
