Trawling for giant calamari online
Susan Crawford compares the Internet to the vast unknowns of the oceans, and says we need an explorers club to plumb its depths and send back reports.
"Even beyond tracking network performance and standard user antics, it would be great to collect strange online species -- what's the online equivalent of the fabled giant squid? The wet variety has "eyes the size of soccer balls and trailing tentacles that can reach lengths of sixty feet." One can only imagine what the virtual kind looks like."
Anyone know of any virtual giant squids (or lobsters or anemones, for that matter) to report? I would imagine that many of the most exotic are written in languages other than English.
