Energy Prices Rise As Winter Arrives

MARKETSCOPE : Energy prices rose early Tuesday, as investors refocused on colder weather spreading into key parts of the northern hemisphere.

January West Texas Intermediate crude oil was up $1.14 to $58.84, December heating oil futures were up 2.66 cents to 173.61 cents, and December gasoline futures were up 3.02 cents to 148.75 cents on Access.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries meets in December, when it might make an announcement about output. A Kuwaiti official spoke of the desire to produce a steady supply of oil.

December natural gas was up 28 cents to $11.61.
