Apple Touts Video

Apple Selling one million videos at iTunes is nice. But how many other kinds of videos, including video blogs, have been downloaded?

After a less than impressive kickoff on Oct. 12 for the iPod video player--in terms of the breadth of commercial videos available on iTunes--Apple is trumpeting that it sold 1 million videos in less than 20 days.

Classic moment in the press release: In the line right after touting that number Jobs says: "Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings, so that customers can enjoy watching more videos on their computers and new iPods." It feels to me that putting that number out there is all about making the other Hollywood players who haven't partnered with Apple feel as though they're missing out.

Frankly, what I find missing in that press release is how many free videos were downloaded. Nice for ABC and the record labels if they're selling videos, but I want to know how video bloggers are doing.

Before it's here, it's on the Bloomberg Terminal.
