Asian markets edged higher Thursday despite thin trading and higher oil prices weighing on sentiment

European stock markets were higher on Thursday. In London, the Financial Times-Stock Exchange 100 index rose 23.40 points to 4994.90 in a short covering rebound. 81 FTSE stocks were up and 19 were down on turnover of 1,960,000,000 shares. Yields on 10-year gilts rose to 4.34% from 4.32% yesterday. UK initial 50-year bond auction results were disappointing. The sterling was off at $1.8208. July Brent crude oil futures were a bit higher. Man Group rose after company said fiscal full year net income rose 10%. Barclay's fell after saying first quarter revenue was "broadly flat". Rentokil fell after company said this year's profit will fall due to competition.
