European and Asian stock markets were higher on Monday. Asian markets were boosted by gains in technology stocks

European stock markets were higher on Monday. In London, the Financial Times-Stock Exchange 100 index, was up 30 points to 4972 level with March Brent crude oil futures down 23 cents to $43.66 level. Also, British American Tobacco leading tobacco stocks higher after a U.S. court late Friday said cigarette makers can't be forced to pay $280 billion in damages demanded by the government. 79 FTSE stocks were up and 19 were down on turnover of 279,602,000 shares. Yields on 10-year gilts were flat at 4.52%. The sterling was off at $1.8678. Manchester United higher on report American Malcolm Glazer made a third takeover bid. Emblaze was up after the company said its full-year net loss narrowed. EMI Group lower after the company cut its fiscal-year revenue forecast.
