European Markets Rise
European stock markets were higher on Tuesday. In London, the Financial Times-Stock Exchange 100 index, which lost 28 points yesterday, was up 12 points to the 4745 level. report of lower car production having little impact. 72 FTSE stocks were up and 26 were down on turnover of 525,421,000 shares. Yields on 10-year gilts were flat at 4.63%. The sterling was up at $1.8716. January Brent crude oil futures were up 2 cents to $44.40. BHP Billiton was higher after the company bought back $1.78 billion of its Australian shares, 51% more than it predicted in October. Easyjet Plc was higher after company reported its net income in the year to Sept. 30, climbed 27%. Stanley Leisure was higher after forming a joint venture with Malaysia's Genting Berhad to develop Las Vegas-style casinos in Britain.
