Stocks in Europe Fall

Major indexes in Tokyo and Hong Kong finish higher

European stock markets finished lower after a sudden burst of selling at the end of session Thursday. The losses came after the release of news in the U.S. that Merck is taking its Vioxx drug off the market. London's Financial Times-Stock Exchange 100 index lost 17.3 points, or 0.38%, falling to 4,570.8.
