AMR Corp. falls; Chico's FAS slips; plus more of friday's stocks in the news

Chiron (CHIR ) delayed the release of its Fluvirin influenze virus vaccine doses due to small number of lots that do not meet product sterility specifications. Assuming an October release, Chiron sees 2004 earnings per share at the low end of guidance.

AMR Corp. (AMR ), the parent of American Airlines, says given continued escalation in this year's fuel prices, it now sees spending more than $300 million more for fuel in the third quarter than it would with last year's prices. For 2004, AMR sees an additional fuel expense of $1 billion.

Women's retailer Chico's FAS (CHS ) posted 39 cents, vs. 28 cents second-quarter earnings per share on 14.1% higher company-owned same-store sales and 47% higher total sales.

The Sports Authority (TSA ) posted 45 cents, vs. 50 cents second-quarter earnings per share (pro forma) on 3.8% lower same-store sales. The retailer sees $1.88 to $1.93 fiscal 2005 earnings per share, excluding merger integration costs. S&P cut its estimate and reiterated the avoid ranking.

Eyetech Pharmaceuticals (EYET ) says the Nasdaq halted trading of its stock. The company noted the Dermatologic and Ophthalmic Drugs Advisory Committee to the FDA is meeting today to review the New Drug Application for Macugen.

Novellus Systems (NVLS ) sees 37 cents third-quarter earnings per share, S&P cut its target, but reiterates accumulate.

Tech Data (TECD ) posted 52 cents, vs. 30 cents second-quarter earnings per share on a 9.6% sales rise. It sees 52 cents to 57 cents third-quarter earnings per share on sales of $4.65 billion to $4.8 billion. S&P maintains hold, and First Albany reportedly upgraded to buy from neutral.

American Financial Group (AFG ) estimated its after-tax losses from Hurricane Charley, net of reinsurance, will be about $8 million , or 10 cents per share.

Urban Outfitters (URBN ) will be added to the S&P MidCap 400 on a date to be announced, replacing Coach (COH ), which is being added to the S&P 500.
