Hyundai Gets Hailed in Auto Quality

J.D. Power's latest report shows the Korean carmaker making major strides, now tied with Honda for No. 2 behind Toyota

Who would have believed it? The automobile initial-quality report issued on Apr. 28 from by J.D. Power & Associates finds that once-derided Hyundai Motor America is challenging mighty Toyota (TM ) in quality. Power's closely followed study, which measures vehicle quality in the first 90 days of ownership, still ranks Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. -- combining its Toyota, Lexus, and Scion brands -- at the top of the corporate listings. American Honda (HMC ) and Hyundai tied for second.
