Asia stocks end lower; Canada shares sink at close

Major European stock indexes finished more than 1% lower Thursday, following Wednesday's slide in the U.S. London's Financial Times-Stock Exchange 100 index shed 56.6 points, or 1.27%, at 4,411.50. U.K. consumer confidence improved in January, with the headline Gfk index rising to zero from minus-five. AstraZeneca moved lower as its fourth quarter sales were flat.
