Stocks End Lower after Fed Announcement

The major indexes each lost more than 1% after the FOMC held rates steady -- but changed its statement to suggest rate hikes may come sooner than expected

The major stock indexes ended in the red on Wednesday -- with the Nasdaq dropping 1.86% -- after Federal Reserve policymakers left the key interest rate target at 1%. The Street didn't expect an interest rate change, but was flummoxed by a seeming shift in the Fed's policy statement.
