Europe Stocks End Mixed

Asia shares finish mixed; Canada stocks slump at close

European stocks finished mixed. In London, the Financial Times-Stock Exchange 100 index ended up 2.4 points, or 0.06%, at 4,225.90.

In Paris, the CAC 40 finished higher by 22.57 points, or 0.68% at 3,328.99. Germany's DAX index was down 16.42 points, or 0.46% at 3,549.05. The DAX suffered from profit taking into the weekend, says MMS.

Asian markets finished mixed. Japan's Nikkei 225 index lost 81.52 points, or 0.79%, to finish at 10,281.17. "Although underlying sentiment is still positive, short-term trading accounts decided to lock in profits before the weekend, as technical charts show signs of [being] overbought," says S&P's MarketScope. Auto shares were down, with Honda Motor and Nissan Motor falling 1.62% and 1.79% respectively, and Nissan Motor slipping 3%.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index added 117.1 points, or 1.10%, to close at 10,760.73.

Canada's benchmark S&P/TSX sank 49.27 points, or 0.66%, to 7,467.18.
