XO Communications launches a bid for Global Crossing, and more deal news

Software company PeopleSoft (PSFT ) agrees to acquire rival J.D. Edwards (JDEC ) for $1.7 billion. (6/2)

XO Communications, and its chairman Carl Icahn, launched a bid valued at about $700 million for fiber-optic carrier Global Crossing. Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte. Ltd. already signed an exclusive agreement to purchase control of Global Crossing -- which filed for bankruptcy in January, 2002 -- for about $600 million. (6/2)

The NASD agreed to sell the American Stock Exchange to Chicago private-equity firm GTCR in a deal valued at $110 million. (6/2)
