Colin Powell's Semi-Soothing Words

He calmed global honchos by saying the U.S. won't rush to judgment on Iraq, but his we'll act alone stance has them fearful

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell laid down a clear marker for European policymakers and corporate leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, over the weekend. The U.S. is prepared to act unilaterally to disarm Iraq without the support of Germany and France, Powell told the confab on Jan. 26. "[We will] act alone or in a coalition of the willing," he said. "We will not shrink from war if that is the only way to rid Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction."
