Table: Due Diligence

Before you do any hiring, ask these questions:

-- What are your credentials, experience, and areas of expertise?

-- How are you compensated?

-- Will you provide a comprehensive financial plan or just portfolio advice?

-- What type of clients do you serve?

-- Can you give me references from other clients?

-- Will you be my fiduciary?

-- Have you ever been publicly disciplined for any unlawful or unethical action?

-- Can I get a written agreement detailing fees, fiduciary oath, and services to be provided?

-- How often will you review my financial plan or portfolio with me?

-- Are you a member of any financial planning or adviser organization?
