Canada Shares Inch Up at Close
Canada's benchmark S&P/TSX rose 13.82 points, or 0.22%, to 6,202.03.
European stocks traded mixed as U.S. equities move in and out of negative territory.
London's Financial Times Stock exchange index gained 46.60 points, or 1.22%, to 3,860.10 in short covering from recent losses. Some of the trading is attributed to volatility from FTSE Triple Witching expiration of futures and options.
Germany's DAX index was up 58.26 points, or 1.94%, to 3,065.73 in short covering and bargain hunting.
And France's CAC index eased 36.36 points, or 1.24%, to 2,890.82.
Asian markets ended lower. Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei 225 index lost 188.54 points, or 1.95%, to 9,481.08, hurt by poor sentiment stemming from a slide in the U.S. equities Thursday.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index lost 99.57 points, or 1.06%, to 9,328.22.
