The timing was grim, but it couldn't have been better. Six months after September 11, and against the backdrop of the most intense global turmoil in several decades, the Public Broadcasting System unveiled its first miniseries about the global economy in 22 years. It was based on the book Commanding Heights, by Daniel Yergin, who was chief commentator and executive producer for the PBS series.
