Prudential Downgrades NVIDIA to 'Hold'

Analyst Hans Mosesmann thinks the company's latest graphics processor will miss a critical fall launch

Prudential downgraded NVIDIA (NVDA ) to hold from buy.

Analyst Hans Mosesmann says the downgrade was based on the probability that NVIDIA's next-generation NV30/31 could miss a critical fall launch. S&P believes NV30/31 will not launch in time for the Christmas season, thus potentially eliminating the company's opportunity to claim the world's fastest graphics processing unit (GPU). Mosesmann says given the history of 3D graphics systems builders being notoriously fair-weather partners, he no longer has conviction on NVIDIA's ability to maintain dominate market share in 2003.
