Europe stocks finish mostly lower; Canada follows U.S. lead, with Alcoa pressuring metals

European stock markets finished flat to lower. In London, the Financial Times-Stock Exchange 100 index fell 43.20 points, or 0.82%, to 5,250.40. The biggest contributors to the decline in the FTSE included Vodafone, BP-Amoco, HSBC Holdings Shell Transport and Royal Bank of Scotland. In France, the CAC 40 dropped 47.45 points, or 1.03%, to 4,568.09. In Germany, the DAX Index finished slightly higher at 4.15 points, or 0.08%, to 5,236.37. The biggest contributors to the loss in the DAX were SAP, Deutsche Bank, Infineon and Deutsche Telekom.
