How Via Technologies has antagonized Intel

MID 1999

Intel (INTC ) sues Via for allegedly infringing on Intel patents for a Pentium 3-based chipset. The two eventually settle.

LATE 2000

Via unveils plans to sell microprocessors in China, threatening Intel's core product line in the world's biggest potential market.

EARLY 2001

Intel refuses to give Via a license to manufacture Pentium 4-based chipsets, but Via says it will produce them anyway.


Intel sues Via again, alleging patent infringement. Intel also sues Via customers such as Elitegroup Computer Systems.
