London Index Stalls Despite England's Rate Cut

Canada markets stumble; Nikkei recovers some losses

European markets finished lower. In London, the Financial Times-Stock Exchange 100 index was down 50.20 points, or 1.02%, to 4,848.70. The Bank of England's quarter-percentage point rate cut on Tuesday failed to breathe life into London's key exchange. In France, the CAC 40 was off 45.28 points, or 1.13%, to 3,970.18. In Germany, the DAX Index lost 39.70 points, or 0.94%, to 4,194.85.
