Canada Shares Drop as Central Bank Cuts Rates

Europe stocks slide; Asia markets end mixed

Canada's benchmark TSE 300 closed down a hefty 83.8 points to 7578.4. The weaker-than-expected U.S. Consumer Confidence report Tuesday morning hurt the North American stock market. Warning of slower growth, the Bank of Canada lowered its interest rate by a quarter percentage point to 4.25%. Of the 14 subindices, 12 closed with losses.
