Wall Street Losses Trample Canada Markets

Germany's key index takes another dive; Japan's Nikkei slides at the close

Canada's benchmark TSE 300 closed down 66.7 points to 7502.8. Hefty losses in the U.S. indices were a weight. Of the 14 subindices, 11 closed down, lead by the Industrials (key stock Nortel fell C$0.35 to C$10.30, and dropped to a two-year low of C$10.02 on Thursday) and Financials. The US$3.90 spike in spot gold propelled the Gold subindex higher.
