Canada Shares Fall, Wiping out Earlier Gains

U.K. business confidence survey lifts London's key index; Nikkei slides to a 16-year low

Monday's opening rally by Canada's benchmark TSE 300 index quickly stalled, and the bourse closed down 20.70 points, or 0.3%, to 7,627.20. Of the 14 subindexes, nine fell and six rose, with the oil and gas sector gaining 1.3%. The metals and minerals index slid 1.2%.
