An Ode to "Factory Days"

Lisa Bergson's success at saving the family business wins the BusinessWeek Online columnist another admirer

I can't tell you how touching it was to read your story at BusinessWeek Online. I happened upon it today while searching for some other, totally unrelated material (see BW Online, 3/24/00, "An Unexpected Inheritance: How I Got My Factory").

It was incredible how you stepped up to revive this company, with the impending absence of your father. I hope, in the future, my children are as interested in my work as you were in carrying on "the family business."

Your story was impressive, uniquely American, and the way things ought to be. The concept of turning over a family company to a "male" relative, by default, should be held to much scrutiny...with your experience as evidence.

No matter what your beliefs, I'm certain your father takes great pride in what you've accomplished over the past 18 years.

Thank you for the story.
