Europe markets close mixed; Asia stocks finish higher

Canada's benchmark TSE 300 closed higher in tandem with U.S. stocks, despite an outage in the Nasdaq. The index finished up 136.35 points to 7736.40, helped by Thursday's close just off the high and the US$2.30 bounce in spot gold. Also, the positive bias in the U.S., and the fact that it's the Friday before a long weekend boosted the TSE 300. All but one of the 14 sub-indices rose, while the gold and precious minerals index was little changed. Canadian financial markets will be closed for the Canada Day holiday Monday.
