Stocks End With Solid Gains
Stock indexes closed higher as bullish sentiment improved and buy programs were triggered ahead of Friday's employment report. Earlier in the session, the blue chips slipped into negative territory following some cautious comments on the economy by Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Robert McTeer until profit takers took the indexes higher again. McTeer said the U.S. will avoid a recession, but that is in a situation that can be characterized as a "dramatic slowdown."
