Pacific Growth Cuts Estimates on Polycom

Analyst Brian Alger is concerned about the company's Q1 revenue shortfall

Polycom Inc. (PLCM ) sees $0.16-$0.18 Q1 earnings per share (pro forma) on revenues of $95-$97 million. Pacific Growth cut its estimates for Polycom.

Analyst Brian Alger told S&P MarketScope that the revenue number was "a bit concerning." He says many analysts - himself included -- cut estimates last week in anticipation of this announcement. However, actual revenue guidance was worse than expected. He has been watching sales in the month of March; the sales channel won't take any inventory, according to the analyst. The company has been able to control costs pretty well; EPS guidance allows the company "a pat on the back. "

The analyst cut his $0.80 2001 EPS estimate to $0.70 and his $491 million revenue forecast to $429 million; for 2002, he lowered his estimates for EPS from $1.08 to $1.00 and for revenues from $650 million to $600 million. He is keeping his buy rating and $25 price target on the stock. Alger says the stock is trading at historical low levels.
