Stocks Tumble on Inflation Jitters and More Tech Woes

In an ugly session, the Nasdaq and S&P closed at lows not seen since 1999

Major equity indexes ended substantially lower Wednesday after the government reported a higher-than-anticipated jump in inflation at the consumer level and more worries about earnings growth potential in the technology sector. While there was a modest mid-day rally gaining steam, that momentum failed to find a follow through.
