Energy Futures Sharply Lower

With crude oil prices below $30 a barrel, traders wait to see if OPEC will step in

2:55 p.m. PHIL FLYNN, Alaron Trading, Chicago: Energy futures skidded in a carryover of Wednesday's late selloff and were weak at the opening. Gasoline was slammed; a carryover of Wednesday's profit taking. There was no particular news other than technical news. A crude oil price break below $30 was a big psychological let down. OPEC ministers have been less aggressive about production lately, and traders are looking to see if they change their tune; they have been talking about raising bands.
