In the midst of plenty, some distressing signs of poverty persist. Five years into one of the strongest booms in American history, most measures of income and wage distribution suggest that the wage gap is getting wider, not narrower. Meanwhile, the percentage of full-time workers living in poverty, according to the latest figures, is no lower than it was in 1994.
