Ruth Ann Leach Harnisch has been a TV anchor, a radio talk-show host, and an op-ed columnist in Nashville. Several years after she married her multimillionaire husband, William Harnisch, she decided to do more than just talk about the world's troubles. She created the Harnisch Family Foundation in 1998 and left the media for a life of giving. The nearly $10 million foundation, aimed at helping people help themselves, has already provided some $500,000 to 100 charities, including Dress for Success, which helps women on welfare suit up for job interviews. Says Ruth Ann Leach Harnisch: "My motto is, `If people knew better, they'd do better."'
