Indonesia Finally Gets Serious
It took a long time, but Indonesia finally did it. In late March, just ahead of an International Monetary Fund deadline for Jakarta, the government announced a watershed deal. It agreed to sell one of the country's crown jewels, auto maker Astra International. It is a sale that's likely to be the first of a series as Jakarta unloads corporate assets seized from Suharto-era cronies.
