Online holiday shopping is set to explode, and pity the retailer who isn't ready for it

Edna Tully is a cyber shopkeeper's dream come true. Last year, the 57-year-old grandmother bought Christmas presents the old-fashioned way-trudging from store to store at the local mall. But things are shaping up differently this year. A month ago, Tully, a data processor in a law office in Chicago, bought her first home computer and instantly became an online shopping junkie. Now she orders all her groceries, buys clothes for the grandkids, and even nabbed tickets for a trip to Disney World online. And she plans to do most of her shopping from the comfort of her well-heated home this Christmas, too. "It just saves you so much time and trouble," Tully says.
