If you think that business in Europe still proceeds at a gentlemanly pace, think again. Ten years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Old World is in the throes one of the most sweeping waves of corporate reorganization in history. European M&A is likely to hit an astounding $1.3 trillion this year and could go even higher in future. If favorable conditions continue, the merger boom is likely to go on for several more years, creating bigger, more competitive, and, one hopes, more entrepreneurial companies.
