Figures Of The Week

COMMENTARY
The market may finally be returning to health. U.S. stocks slumped on Oct. 1,
after a manufacturing report suggested the economy may be growing too fast and
encourage inflation. But interest-rate optimism gave stocks and bonds new
vigor. On Oct. 6, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 188 points in
anticipation that third-quarter profit growth will be healthy.
