Hey, Look, I'm A Patriot

You didn't think that starting a business had a patriotic element? Well, consider that entrepreneurs have been responsible for about one-third of all U.S. economic growth during the current expansion. That's the preliminary finding of a research team that studied entrepreneurial cultures in 10 countries. The group--drawn from Babson College and London Business School--found that where startups have been encouraged and failure is socially acceptable, the gains in gross domestic product have been the greatest. Entrepreneur-friendly countries (table) generate more jobs and more overall personal wealth than do cultures dominated by huge, immobile institutions.
