A 100 days on the job, and it's still "Denny Who?" Unlike his mercurial predecessor, Newt Gingrich, House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) remains invisible to most Americans. The beefy former wrestling coach shuns the spotlight and doesn't claim to be the Republican Party's visionary. He is trying to restore order to the unruly House and unite GOP lawmakers behind a limited agenda. That's a tall order: Republicans are divided on everything from tax policy to Kosovo, and their six-seat edge in the House looks to be in jeopardy in 2000.
