In the frenzy of Bill Clinton's battle to escape impeachment, no group has been more steadfast in his defense than liberals. Feminists, civil rights workers, and union activists have jammed congressional switchboards with appeals to save his hide. But even as they've gone to the barricades for Bill, liberals have done so with an existential sigh. Why? One reason is that on an issue they care deeply about--Social Security--Clinton is about to deal them out.
