For lawyers, the Millennium Bug is a godsend

On Oct. 23, the law firm of Covington & Burling handed out "doom clocks" at a Year 2000 legal seminar in Washington, D.C. The souvenirs count off the seconds and minutes to the potential chaos that could occur at midnight Jan. 1, 2000, if computers aren't inoculated against the so-called millennium, or Y2K, bug. To lawyers, those clocks might as well be counting billable hours: Y2K is well on its way to becoming the next litigation bonanza.
