Ulster Crisis May Aid Peace
Violent confrontations between Orangemen and security forces at Portadown, Northern Ireland, could advance the peace process. The ugly standoff has split Protestant fraternal organizations badly. Any weakening of the Orangemen, the spine of peace-settlement opposition, is a plus for British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who has backed a ban on provocative Protestant parades.
