The Gop's China Envy
-- Senate Republicans are trying to dim the afterglow from President Clinton's highly praised trip to China. Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.), accusing Clinton of undermining Taiwan's autonomy, is urging Congress to reaffirm U.S. support for the island. Three Senate committees are looking into Chinese launches of U.S. satellites. And the Senate will consider bills to impose sanctions on Beijing, such as U.S. opposition to World Bank loans to China.
