Divided We Stand?
-- Republicans are growing confident that they'll keep control of Congress this fall. Their rosy outlook is based on signs of growing support among independents. Example: A June 24-28 survey by the GOP polling firm Market Strategies shows swing voters favoring Republicans 40% to 30%. This bloc gives high marks to President Clinton and a low grade to GOP congressional leaders. So why keep Hill Republicans in power? Independents want to continue divided government.
