Executives see a streak of xenophobia in Brasilia

Eager to get a foothold in Brazil's thirsty beer market, Miller Brewing Co. set up a joint venture with Cervejaria Brahma, the country's biggest brewer, in September, 1995, to produce and market Miller's Genuine Draft brand. Miller Chief Executive Jack MacDonough saw the country of 160 million as a springboard for expansion throughout South America. Brazil is "at the top of our list of opportunities," he said.
