Thailand Must Give Cronyism The Boot

Thailand's bubble economy has burst, and its battle against the global economy has ended in defeat. After spending billions of dollars to defend the baht, Bangkok capitulated and let it float. The currency immediately fell 18%, to 28.95 to the dollar, a record low. The failure highlights the weakness of Asia's crony capitalism to deal with quickly changing economic conditions.
