Investment Figures Of The Week

COMMENTARY

The Dow Jones industrials finally blasted through 6000. The Dow made its

historic close on Columbus Day, when many investors were enjoying a long

weekend. But as traders and investors came back to work, they were buyers

rather than sellers. The 6000-mark held, and the Dow went on to 6020.8 on Oct.

16. The Standard & Poor's 500-stock index also made a new high, as did the

over-the-counter market. Fueling the stock surge was better-than-expected

earnings and favorable news on the economic front.
