Investment Figures Of The Week

COMMENTARY

The prices of oil and gasoline futures contracts tumbled as the government

expanded its investigation into rising oil prices. The economy showed signs of

spring fever. Chrysler's U.S. car and light-truck sales soared 33% in April.

Consumer confidence numbers sailed to their highest level in almost six years.

The pickup in activity sparked inflation fears and sent the yield on the

30-year Treasury to 6.91%, up from 6.82% a week ago. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq

Composite Index outpaced the Dow, rising to a new record.
